The first installation of COX Diesel Outboards in Maldives have been successfully concluded. A 38ft Catamaran originally equipped with inboard engines has been converted and Twin CXO300 COX Diesel Outboard Engines fitted.
The operational requirement for the pilot boat application is 26 Knots. The installation successfully delivered speeds in excess of 32 Knots at 3800rpm. The vessel with an estimated displacement of 9tons which includes fuel tank capacity of 1000 Liters and a compliment of 6 previously delivered 23-26 Knots with twin Volvo Penta D6 stern Drives.
Fuel consumption figures with the COX engines are around 60 Liters/hr @ 30 Knots and 74 Liters/hr @ WOT. At present, various propeller configurations are being tested to determine the optimum option for this installation.
